Milestones Early Learning is seeking qualified candidates to join its team working with children as an GSRP/PREK lead teacher at our Jenison location. Ideal candidates will be caring, dependable, flexible, enthusiastic, motivated, and work well in a team-oriented environment.

The Lead GSRP teacher is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing the classroom activities and curriculum. They will ensure the safety and well-being of all children in their classroom and support their emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs. They will adhere to all Michigan Department of Education guidelines and GSRP, Great Start to Readiness Program requirements and expectations.

Qualifications and Education:

A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement or a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching. The transcript will document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education.

Requirements:

  • Fingerprints from State of Michigan

  • Proof of negative T.B. test

  • Copies of school transcripts or training hours

  • CPR/First Aid Certified within 90 days of hire

  • Complete all required trainings as outlined by LARA

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to the following):

  • Reading, reviewing, and abiding the staff handbook and policies held by Milestones Early Learning

  • Maintain supervision of children and activities

  • Plans and leads daily lesson plans

  • Plans developmentally appropriate activities

  • Prepares materials daily

  • Maintains the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom

  • Maintain a clean and orderly room

  • Prepare children for mealtimes and other transitions

  • Provide each child’s parent, information of individual activities on a daily basis

  • Provides parents weekly lesson plans

  • Completes all required documentation as outlined by GSRP guidelines

  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits two times each year

  • Handle parent grievances and report them to the director

  • Maintains positive relationships with parents and staff

  • Routinely assesses development of each child

  • Communicates with parents and director on changes in child’s behavior

  • Attend all staff meetings and professional development opportunities

  • Maintains all necessary records for children and the program

  • Maintains confidentiality in areas that pertain to children’s records, conferences, staff related and center related matters

  • Being a role model for children

  • Valuing and supporting each child and staff member without regard to race, religion, or national origin

  • Assume any additional duties as directed by the center director or administrative staff

  • Have dependable transportation

  • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children in a classroom

  • Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual and have minimal absences

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

Travel:

0-5% of local travel within the state of Michigan, occasional out of state travel may be required for educational conferences or trainings.
